|
|
The 4th epsiode of "Meet the GIMP!" is out.
In this episode of my video podcast I show how to correct colours with layers in the GIMP.
For reducing the green tint of the image I add a layer filled with a bright magenta (white minus a bit green) and set the layer mode to "multiply". This reduces the green in the image proportional to the amount of green in each pixel. The amount of the effect can be adjusted by changing the opacity of the layer or changing the colour of the layer.
Then I add a bit of blue with a layer filled with a very dark blue (black plus a bit blue) and set the layer mode to "screen". Now the blue in each pixel is enhanced proportionally. This can also be adjusted.
What do you think about this one?

Somehow I missed this post on Friday! I guess I'll have to check this part of the forum even when it isn't highlighted!
Thoughts: How do you know what color blue to use? Why not a light blue?
Also, I still can't subscribe through itunes - power search in itunes doesn't find it, and the button on the Meet the GIMP! - Video podcast - NEW! link gets me the "The webpage cannot be displayed" message.
I like the idea of baby steps in this process - I'll try to find an image of my own to color correct - if I have any that haven't been discarded!!!
Thanks, Rolf. _________________ Ruth

I thought iTunes was working - I have 5 subscribers using iTunes for Windows. But I'll look into that issue.
What happens when you click the iTunes subscription link on my web page? I simply stole that from tfttf - no idea how that works.....
The blue: I want to add a bit of blue, no red, no green. And that is a very dark blue. Light blue is a lot of red, green and even more blue.
I think I have to search for a way to get this more clearly transported.

| I just subscribed to the show on itunes (windows ver.) I think you are doing a wonderfull job with your video podcast. Keep up the good work. I'm still laughing over the way you ended the show Episode #5. Maybe one of your episodes could focus on keyboard shortcuts with Gimp? |

I think you need to have Chris interview you on Tips to help get your listener base up. I've subscribed via iTunes on Windows. Found you via the search in iTunes looking for GIMP podcasts.

Rolf, just wanted to say thanks for the podcast! I've been using the gimp for years now, but I'm still learning a lot from you.
PS, I searched and subscribed through itunes with no hassles.

Is there a way to have GIMP auto match two photos' colors? I am trying to get completely off of Windows and Photoshop is the last thing holding me back. I actually use the stitching functionality in it on a semi regular basis for making panoramas. It works flawlessly and does and excellent job of normalizing all the photos for exposure and color. I have found Hugin for Linux for the panorama part but it doesn't do a very good job of matching the exposure across the whole pictures. It does a good job at blending the edges of the photos, just not the rest of them. How can I do this before stitching to get a more even result? If needed I can post the two results obtained from PS and GIMP/Hugin for comparison.

If you're shooting RAW, you can just set all the pics to have the same white balance when you convert them.
If you're shooting JPG, choose a WB mode (daylight etc) rather than auto, and all the pics should have the same colours.

Does the GIMP handle RAW correctly? I'm shooting with a Nikon D50. Also, is there a place to get lens correction files for Hugin? The stitching seems to be fine to me, but a correction would probably make it look even better. |

Get UFRaw (there's a GIMP plugin version) and you'll be set - I use Lightoom/CS2 on a Mac as my main workflow tools, but have GIMP with UFRaw set up on both the Mac and my work PC laptop - works fine with files from a D70s. _________________ Dom - flickr
