About me

My name is Christoph Marquardt, I’m 36 years old, and I live in Tübingen, Germany.

I’ve been into photography for over 18 years, having started off with a Minolta X700 manual focus SLR camera and a Voigtländer 70-210mm zoom lens. Even though I have done a lot of photography over the years, over time I found it to be more and more awkward to wait for film to be developed, and it got less and less satisfying to see that I had virtually no influence on what the lab would do with my pictures in terms of things such as colour correction and brightness/contrast “enhancements”. Building my own lab was not an option for me and so I watched the DSLR (digital SLR) market in the hope that those multiple thousand dollar cameras would finally get to a price point where I could afford one too.

During that time I had various digital point-and-shoot cameras and had plenty of opportunity to learn the basics of digital photography.

Well, when in 2003 the Canon 300D (Digital Rebel) hit the market, I jumped the wagon and I have never looked back.

I’m now doing the bulk of my photography with a Canon EOS 20D and the following Canon lenses: 80-200/2.8L, 17-40/4.0L, 50/1.8II, 35/2.0. I also own a few older manual-focus lenses with M42 threads that I fit to the 20D using an adapter. In addition to that I have a small studio setup that consists of two Multiblitz strobes and a few backgrounds and reflectors.
