Are you sure you want to step up to blue alert, sir? It *does* mean changing the bulb.

Okay, that’s a slightly obscure reference there in the title of this post, and I apologize to all of you who have never watched Red Dwarf. But that’s only partially what this article is about. It is *not* about photography though. In fact it is more about someone who totally gets it.

It’s a wonderful time to be in new media and to be able to get more exposure than ever with what you love doing and talking about and showing others.

It is even more wonderful if others – for example iTunes – recognize that and put your show on display on their latest newsletter. (Thanks Apple!)

But being presented on the same page as one of my heros, that’s just priceless.

I’m talking about Robert Llewellyn. I first saw the British actor when he was Kryten, the robot on Red Dwarf. Which given the fact that Red Dwarf never really made it to German TV was entirely made possible thanks to the Internet. Robert then hosted Scrapheap Chalenge for many years. All in all fun productions, but that’s only a small part of why he is one of my heros.

But then I lost sight of him. For years. Until just recently when he popped up on my radar again. I spotted him on Twitter. And guess what. Here’s someone who grew up in old media, who is still working in old media, but HE GETS IT. The whole new media phenomenon that is now way more mainstream than a lot of people think. Not only does he Twitter, he also produces a podcast. Wait. Wrong. He actually produces THREE of them. And they are all material that I can relate to in one way or another. How cool is that? Oh, and he’s probably as ADD as I am. Hold on .. wait .. look .. shiny ..

Errrrm… back to Robert’s productions.

First there are his own very personal “Wet Liberal” rants on youtube. Here he goes off about virtually everything, even though there are some areas that get more interest than others – including alternative energy and electric vehicles. Good.

Then there’s his current project “Car Pool” where he drives various celebrities from the British media (and also some more “normal” people) around London in his Prius and talks to them. Highly entertaining, even if you don’t know all of them.

Last but not least he does the “Machine of the Week Report” (aka MoWeR) on Channel Flip. Again, entertaining and with stuff on it that I like hearing about. Great.

Who would’ve thought?

Robert, you can get me on Car Pool any time, I’ll even take the trip to London so you won’t have to drive on the wrong side of the road ;o)

PS: What does this have to do with photography? Beats me…
